Environment and Development for Human Well-Being
The Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) was established in 1992 as an international inter-governmental Organization with diplomatic status.
This was in response to the convention adopted by the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible For the Environment (CAMRE) , in 1991 and upon the initiative of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Arab fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD).

Near East & North Africa Land and Water Days
Dates and venue: 15-18 December 2013, Hotel Le Meridien Amman, Jordan
Focus: Land and water management –technologies, approaches and modalities to secure sustained improvements on the ground and improved resilience.
Target group: policy makers, practitioners, donors and researchers to share and learn together about effective ways to enhance for Land and Water management practices in the region.
Format: Interactive event with a share fair and market place, policy dialogues, technical sessions, trainings and posters presentation.
CEDARE Successfully Concludes the BAT4MED Project Activities
CEDARE has finalized the activities of the project entitled “Boosting Best Available Techniques in the Mediterranean Partner Countries - BAT4MED”, by conducting four national workshops in Palestine, Lebanon, Libya and Algeria. The series of workshops were directed at Arab Mediterranean non-project countries, in order to disseminate the project results and raise awareness on the principles of prevention-based environmental control systems, such as the EU-IPPC. The workshops provided a great opportunity to exchange experiences on the adaptation and mainstreaming of IPPC and BAT’s in the national strategic policies.
Workshop in Algeria for Dissemination of BAT4MED Project Outcomes, 19 August 2013
As part of the final activities of the EU Project, Best Available Techniques for the Mediterranean (BAT4MED), the Center for Environment and Development in the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) is holding its last national workshop on the 19th of August 2013 to disseminate project results in Algeria. The event is held in cooperation with the Algerian Centre for Cleaner Production (CNTPP). This comes as part of the final activities of BAT4MED where the project results are being disseminated in other Arab countries of the Mediterranean in a series of workshops. Previous workshops were successfully held in Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, and Libya over the past months.
Arab Region Atlas of Our Changing Environment
Abu Dhabi, 10 December, 2013 -The pace of environmental change in the Arab region may befaster than in the rest of the worlddue to growing populations and increasing environmental pressures, according to a new report released today.
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Abu Dhabi Global Environmental Data Initiative (AGEDI), supported by the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) releasedTheArab Region: Atlas of Our Changing Environment. The Atlas examines the environmental change that has taken place at more than 80 locations across the Arab region, using a combination of on-the-ground photographs, current and historical satellite images, with a narrative based on extensive scientific evidence.
Green Standards Week from 16 to 20 September 2013 in Madrid, Spain,
CEDARE is cooperating with the ITU in organizing the third Green Standards Week from 16 to 20 September 2013 in Madrid, Spain, which will be hosted by Telefónica.
The Green Standards Week will bring together leading specialists in the field, from top policy-makers to engineers, designers, planners, government officials, regulators, standards experts and others. The main purpose is to raise awareness of the importance and opportunities of using ICT standards to build a green economy and shape smart sustainable cities.
Workshop in Libya for Dissemination of BAT4MED Project Outcomes on August 15th, 2013
As part of the final activities of the EU Project, Best Available Techniques for the Mediterranean (BAT4MED), the Center for Environment and Development in the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) is holding a national workshop on the 15th of August 2013 to disseminate project results in Algeria. The event is held in cooperation with the Environmental General Authority (EGA) of Libya at their premises in Alghiran, Tripoli at 10am. As BAT4MED project comes to a close, the project results are being disseminated in other Arab countries of the Mediterranean in a series of workshops. Previous workshops were held in Palestine, Beirut, and Lebanon over the past month.
