The Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE) was established in 1992 as an international inter-governmental Organization with diplomatic status.
This was in response to the convention adopted by the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible For the Environment (CAMRE) , in 1991 and upon the initiative of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Arab fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD).

The 14th Meeting of the Mediterranean Commission on Sustainable Development The Fourteenth Meeting of the Mediterranean Commission on Sustainable Development (MCSD) was held at Hotel Maestral, Budva, Montenegro, from 30 May to 1 June 2011.
The meeting discussed the Mediterranean perspective on sustainable development and in particular the green economy and institutional framework for sustainable development. CEDARE has been elected to be the Vice-President of the Steering Committee. www.unepmap.org. |
World Environment Day
The World Environment Day will be held on June 5th 2012, in Rio de Janeiro – Brazil. It is organized by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Within the EU 7th Framework Programme, IWWA project proposes an alternative for the empowerment of authorities, policy makers and key stakeholders that have a role in the Waste Management chain. The project will contribute to the improvement of solid waste management systems in West Africa, by promoting appropriate management policies at national and regional levels and gathering authorities, policy makers and other stakeholders (private sector, NGOs, general public, etc.) in the design of waste management practices, with the support of African and European experts.
ITU-UNEP-UNU-StEP Initiative-CEDARE Joint Survey on E-WasteThe International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP)/ Secretariat of the Basel Convention and the United Nations University (UNU), in collaboration with Solving the E-waste Initiative (StEP) and the Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE), have launched a joint survey to collect detailed data on e-waste management, policies and standards, which can help construct a comprehensive overview of the current e-waste landscape and identify future challenges in this realm. Such a mapping of the e-waste issue will establish a base upon which the exchange of e-waste information and best practices can occur, and will form a valuable tool in promoting collaborative work in the future.

The Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) will host the Eye on Earth Summit on December 12-15, 2011 in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The World Water Day 2012 will be held on March 22nd 2012 under the theme "Water and Food Security". It will be coordinated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
NAIROBI, Kenya, February 22, 2012 (ENS) - Environment ministers from around the world ended their annual meeting today by promising to make the upcoming UN Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio+20, a success.
On the 15-17th of November, 2011, the Egypt Green Days program, a series of workshops and seminars aiming to promote green entrepreneurship and raise environmental awareness in Egypt, was successfully held at AUC new campus. The program was co-organized by CEDARE, in cooperation with the UN Cleaner Production Center Regional Activity Center (UNCPRAC) and the School Of Business of the American University in Cairo (AUC) in cooperation with the supporting partners, the Egyptian National Cleaner Production Center (ENCPC) and as representatives of the civil society and outreach to youth, the Green Arm of Nahdet El-Mahoursa NGO, among other supporting partners and stakeholders.
